Issue #2, The New: Queer, "Issue Specific Call for Submissions":

The New: Queer is an online publication now accepting submissions from the post-stonewall, post-AIDS crisis, post-marriage, post-military LGBTQ community.  As the name implies, we're looking for work that comments not only on where we're coming from, but also where we are and where we'd like to go.  Please submit any combination (but no more than 2 pieces) of music, poetry, art, essay, fiction, nonfiction, flash fiction, or short film.  While queerness as a modern concept can be rather abstract, and the road into the future may seen long and drawn out, we'd prefer your art not be either of these things.  If you have an idea for a submission and you're not sure if it meets our guidelines, please feel free to contact the editor at thenew.thenewmail@gmail.com.

Submission Information and Guidelines

The New: publishes both specific issues as well as other online content published separate from the issues.

Currently, The New: accepts submissions of blogs, art, cover art, and logo art as content for publication separate from the issues.

General Guidelines

1. Read the “Issue Specific Call for Submissions” for detailed information regarding genres and themes sought for a specific issue.

2. Before submitting, read “Naming Your File for Submission” to ensure your work receives proper attention.

3. Before submitting read the “Genre-Specific Submission Guidelines.”

4. Please only make one submission in a genre per issue, e.g. you can submit both a review and a set of poems for the same issue, but you cannot submit two sets of poems or multiple reviews.

5. Simultaneous submissions are acceptable, but inform us if part or all of your submission is taken elsewhere.

Naming Your File for Submission

  • All file names must include your name, the title of the issue for which you are submitting, and the genre of the work you are submitting.
  • For example, if you are John Smith, you are submitting a work of fiction for The New: Party issue, and you are submitting a .doc file then your file would be labeled thusly:  “JohnSmith.Party.Fiction.doc.”

Cover Letter

  • Paste or type a short bio into the “Cover Letter” box that appears when submitting.  This bio will be used in the magazine if your work is accepted.
  • Bios must be 3-5 sentences in length and should include your name, and may include things such as what you do, where you are from, awards you have received, and previous publications.
  • In your bio avoid metaphysical and metaphorical language and notions as well as attempts at being clever, i.e. just tell us who you are and let your work do all of the singing.
